What Can Maca Do For Me?

Maca is mostly known for its outstanding stamina enhancing properties. Many athletes use it with great success to increase their endurance and performance. Maca is not a stimulant; rather, it is a stress-adaptor. It increases energy and endurance, and re-mineralizes poorly nourished bodies. Maca provides a general sense of strength and well-being.

Maca is also well-known as a natural hormone balancer. It is used to improve fertility and enhance sexual function in both men and women. Women use Maca to help alleviate premenstrual discomfort or menopause symptoms.

The key to Maca's stamina effects appears to be two groups of novel compounds called macamides and macaenes. Because of its regulating effects on the endocrine system, it also helps to build a strong immune system. Maca has also traditionally been used to lubricate stiff arthritic joints, and ease respiratory illness.

The increased energy gained from Maca helps improve concentration, memory, and alertness. Maca is also helpful in fighting depression, which can sometimes be caused or worsened by lack of energy and malnourishment.

Maca's Nutrients

Maca is so nutrient-packed that Inca warriors reportedly consumed it to energize themselves for battle. Maca is an important staple in the Andes because it is the most nutritious food grown there. The tuber has an aroma similar to butterscotch and can be consumed either fresh or dried. Fresh, it is baked or roasted on ashes and is considered a delicacy. Dried, it is often boiled with water or milk to make porridge.

Dried Maca contains about 60% carbohydrates, 10% protein, 8.5% dietary fiber, and 2.2% lipids. It contains a number of sterols, and is a good source of essential minerals like iron, magnesium, calcium (more than milk), potassium and iodine. It also provides fatty acids including linolenic, palmitic and oleic acids, and polysaccharides. It contains vitamins B-1, B-2, B-12, C and E.

Any recipe ideas for using Maca?

You are only limited by your own imagination, so be creative!  We love to use Maca in smoothies, in the raw brownie recipe and we have even used it in hot oatmeal!

OLD FASHION OATMEAL

2/3 cup organic rolled oats

Hot water (enough to cover the oats) - let sit until oats are soft

1 tbsp. agave nectar (or to taste)

1 tsp organic maple syrup

Pinch of cinnamon

1 tbsp. of maca powder

Stir and enjoy!

"NO GUILT"  CHEWY CHOCOLATE BROWNIES

1 lb. raw Walnuts (or your favorite nut)

1/2 cup powdered cacao nibs (raw chocolate)  - if you want it more or less chocolaty adjust your qty.

1 - 2 tbsp. maca (optional)

10 - 13 pitted medjool dates (use more if you're using smaller dates)

Agave Nectar (for taste and to help with consistency if needed)

1 tsp. vanilla

pinch of sea salt

In a food processor, thoroughly grind the walnuts.  In a coffee grinder, powder the raw cacao nibs.  Add the powdered cacao nibs, salt and vanilla to the ground walnuts.   Then add pitted dates - add only a few at a time while the processor works.   TIP: as the mixture becomes thick, it helps to use "pulse" on the food processor to blend more thoroughly.

Press the mixture in a pan or roll into bite size balls.  Another great way to finish them off is to roll them into powdered walnuts, hazelnuts, raw pistachios or maca powder.  For extra flavor, try adding chopped dried cherries or raisins.  Serve them chilled or right out of the food processor.  Remember:  you're only limited by your own imagination!

FYI:  Your new "No Guilt" chocolate treat is rich in
antioxidants and essential fats.

Enjoy!

Maca contains a wide variety of nutrients and helps to supports the entire endocrine system; therefore, if your sex organs & hormones are in need of support, you may experience an increased sex drive. This in not uncommon, which is why many companies are marketing it as an aphrodisiac. However, based on the research available on Maca, Windhawk loves this product as a WHOLE BODY SUPPORT.
